There are so many people who want to use statistics and individual stories to help us understand the housing market today. I have a problem with that because that information is coming from people who do not work in the industry and don’t have a stake in the market.
Today we brought in two experts in the field of Real Estate specializing in the Puget Sound area to talk about what is actually happening on your street. On our roundtable today we welcome Dennis Pearce and Jesse Moore of Pickett Street Properties.
The discussion centers around what kinds of purchases people can expect to make today. Jesse and Dennis help us to understand the different ways that people are buying homes and a different strategy for sellers in this market.
The part of the interview I found most interesting is their perspective on the type of market we will see over the next year or two. This is a unique perspective and I believe they are right.
Pickett Street Properties www.PickettStreet.com is the brainchild of Dennis and Jesse. They started it to redefine the Real Estate Business with a new view of how business should be done. It is ideas like these that we have seen revolutionize other industries and with the turmoil in the housing market of late, I think they are on to something. We only got to meet two of the four members of Pickett Street Properties on today’s show. The other two members are Lisa Bender and Andy O’Shea. Look for them on future shows.
I hope you will give this roundtable a listen. Here is the contact information for the partners at Pickett Street Properties.

On a recent trip to Arizona, I stumbled onto a book in a spa of all places. It had a picture of Benjamin Franklin on it and since I had just completed a book about him, I thought I would check this one out. In the couple of days we spent sitting by the pool, my wife and I both read, The Ten Laws of Wealth and Prosperity by Ron Willingham. We both loved the book, the message and the writing style. I was so impressed that I called Ron and arranged to have him on the show.
Today I get to bring to you some great information and the opportunity to hear a man who has dedicated his life to teaching. The Ten Laws of Wealth and Prosperity is a book I feel everyone should read. I know you will get value from it’s contents and it will help you to create some new habits around your money.
Ron is a delightful man and I know you will enjoy this interview.

I have a bunch of friends who are car racing junkies. They attend the local races and they watch NASCAR on TV. They know who’s who, and what’s what. You could call them full fledged FANatics. Some people I know make several trips a year to see the big races in other cities. And yes, they were totally supportive of bringing a NASCAR track here to the Seattle area.
I have to admit that I am not a big car racing fan. I don’t like watching it on TV and I can’t understand anyone listening to it on the radio. I have attended a few local races over the years and the truth is, once I get there I do enjoy it. I just don’t like big crowds. Getting there seems to be the biggest impediment to my participation. I am a maverick by nature, whichever way the group is going, I tend to go the other way.
Anytime you have big events, where lot’s of people are going to the same place at the same time, you have traffic and long lines and waiting. That’s it, the waiting. That’s what I don’t like, the waiting. You have probably heard that it is the journey that is important, not the destination. Well I don’t buy it.
I am goal oriented guy and I am a finisher by nature. I like to complete what I start, so if I am going to a place where lot’s of other people are going at the same time, I just want to get there to enjoy what I went to experience. I don’t go to some events that I would like to for that very reason. I don’t participate in some things in life that I would like to just because the journey is unpleasant for me. Sure I could put up with it, but I don’t.
Many people do this with their money. They give up the enjoyment of being financially sound because they don’t like the journey to get there. Believe me, I understand. But, not being willing to fight the crowd for a NASCAR event won’t affect my ability to live my older years in comfort. It won’t stop me from being safe and warm in my own home and it won’t stop my kids from developing whatever skills and interests that could make their lives better. Find ways to enjoy the journey. Becoming financially stable does not have to be a difficult journey. You can do it like the NASCAR racers do it by following a couple of simple steps.
1. Start with an attitude that you are going to win and give it everything you have. 2. Plan your race. Figure out where you are going and what is the best way to maneuver through it. There are corners and you will have to turn.
3. Look for ways to do it better and faster.
4. When you start to slide more than you should, make a quick stop to change your tires and fill up with gas.
5. Visualize yourself in the winner’s circle.
As you start to have some success, you will find that there is less traffic. The crowds get smaller once you hit the winners circle, everyone will want to know the secret of your success. Just tell them you gave it everything you had, stopping only to change the tires and fill the tank.

In this rapid changing society we live in, we are all trying to figure out what to do next and how to keep up. This feeling is compounded by small businesses. Small business owners have to think ahead of the curve. We are also responsible for the income of our employees. With the additional burden of government regulations, smaller profit margins and lack of a clear direction in the economy. How are small business owners doing it?
We have two people with us today who haved owned small businesses for many years. They are successful men who open up and explain to us the challenges they face, what they look for in new employees and what government could be doing to help out.

The theme for this hours roundtable discussion is Women, Spirituality and Entrepreneurship. We discuss the paths that these three women followed to get to the place of success they currently enjoy. What were the lessons they learned along the way? A crucial element was the determination of each to avoid “business as usual” by emphasizing the spiritual significance of every individual that crosses their path. They all agreed that the value of their professional life is intimately tied to the value of their spiritual practices.
